A bare wall behind the stove makes a kitchen feel unfinished. Peel-and-stick tiles are a renter-friendly fix that look surprisingly good when applied carefully, and they come off without damage when used on smooth, painted walls.
Why this works
The key to a convincing result is preparation and straight lines. Clean walls, careful measuring, and good cuts around outlets separate a neat finish from a wavy one.
What you’ll need
Materials at a glance: Peel-and-stick backsplash tiles; Level and pencil; Craft knife and metal ruler; Degreasing cleaner and cloth; Hair dryer. Plan on about 3 hrs and a budget of under $120. The full materials list and numbered steps are in the project card below.
How to do it
Degrease the wall and let it dry completely. Mark a level guideline above the counter, start from the center, and press each tile firmly from one side to the other to avoid bubbles. Use a sharp craft knife for the cuts around outlets and edges.
Styling tips
- Order one extra box so you do not run short.
- Warm the tiles with a hair dryer if they refuse to stick on a cold wall.
- Keep tiles a few inches from the burners for safety.
